About Dr. Charles
Charles had initially pursued chemical engineering for his undergrad studies. His interest in the core sciences set the foundation for a lot of the philosophical principles that guide his treatment and care now, per the concept of Steady State.
After graduating from Cal Berkeley with his B.S. in Chemical Engineering, fate led Charles back to school for further career exploration into exercise and movement science per kinesiology and the allied healthcare fields; this is when he discovered physical therapy. It was during this time Charles became enamored by the opportunity to help others on a daily basis especially via a physical health and fitness foundation, in which he personally believes strongly.
Charles is a graduate from the San Marcos, CA campus of the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. His professional experience includes rehabilitation of neuromuscular and orthopedic conditions in subacute inpatient settings as well as in the outpatient realm, but the latter is where he has called his professional home primarily throughout the bulk of his career. Charles employs a hands-on manual approach to physical therapy intervention combined with client-centric progressive functional exercise and activities to improve individual-specific functional goals.
He also prides himself in being a lifelong learner who tries to stay up to date with continued developments in interventions as well as continued growth and building of his own knowledge base and skill set. Especially over the course of the pandemic, he has taken greater note of the relevance of mental health and is accordingly a major proponent of advocating for more complete, all-encompassing health care. Along similar lines, he believes strongly in the cooperation of the different allied healthcare fields. With your best interest in mind, Charles will be sure to provide the appropriate care that is best suited to your particular situation.
Although not exactly a SoCal native, Charles did attend middle and high school in the Northwood Irvine area; thus, his current professional goals are to continue to serve the community of his adoptive home. He is also still very much connected to both Orange and San Diego Counties via friends and family. Born in New Jersey, Charles soon after birth had a diverse upbringing, having moved and grown up overseas in Singapore, Qatar, and Taiwan for about a decade early in his youth before becoming a Californian. Accordingly, he always strives for cultural understanding and empathy, and he has goals to incorporate those values to build and promote the relevance and importance of physical therapy and general wellness.
Charles’s primary hobbies include playing competitive recreational badminton, enjoying modern tabletop (board) games, conquering escape rooms, swimming recreationally, practicing yoga, hiking (especially if there’s a water destination along and/or at the end of it), visiting intermittently an indoor rock climbing gym, and dabbling in obstacle course events with friends. He also loves to enjoy and explore different multicultural foods despite growing up as a picky eater… of course while considering healthy dietary practice!
